FSC Approves the Establishment of the Taiwan Branch of KEB Hana Bank (Korea)

FSC approves the application of KEB Hana Bank (Korea) for the establishment of branch in Taiwan. The bank is the first Korean Bank to establish a branch in Taiwan. As Taiwan and Korea maintain close economic and trade relations, and Taiwan is one of the top ten trading partners of Korea, the Bank has applied for the establishment of a branch to vigorously expand the financial markets and services between the two countries and help the Bank develop businesses and improve overseas networks.
   KEB Hana Bank was established in 1971 and it is the bank with the most overseas branches in Korea. Its main businesses scope includes corporate finance, consumer finance, and trust and retirement fund management. It has a total of 195 businesses locations around the world and has abundant experience in operating overseas locations and supporting the development of overseas business. According to the rankings in The Banker as of the end of July 2020, the Bank ranked 78th in the world in terms of total assets and its Tier 1 capital ranked 81st in the world. It meets the requirements of Article 2 of the Regulations Governing Foreign Bank Branches and Representative Offices for applicant banks to rank among the top five hundred banks in the world.
  The FSC stated that the establishment of the Taiwan Branch of KEB Hana Bank promotes the internationalization of Taiwan’s financial market and generates positive effects for bilateral trade and investments between Taiwan and Korea.
