FAQ

How would you describe the competitive landscape among private and state-owned Taiwanese banks?

1. There are 37 domestic banks in Taiwan, including 3 fully state-owned banks, namely the Bank of Taiwan, Land Bank of Taiwan, and the Export-Import Bank, and 6 partially state-owned banks, namely the Taiwan Cooperative Bank, Chang Hwa Bank, Taiwan Business Bank, First Bank, Hua Nan Bank, and the Mega Bank.

2. The above mentioned banks with state ownership and the privately owned banks comply with the same banking regulations and are under equivalent supervision of financial structure, business, and regulatory compliance. Concerning the management of the state ownership, the state-owned banks are further governed in the matters of their personnel, budget, and business plans by the Ministry of Finance.
